World App FAQs

What is World App?

World App is the first wallet created for the Worldcoin project. It gives people access to a private, decentralized digital identity through World ID and decentralized finance through cryptocurrencies and digital stablecoins like digital dollars.

World App was developed and is operated by Tools for Humanity, a contributor to the Worldcoin project.

What can I do with World App?

World App is the first app that supports World ID—a secure, permissionless identity protocol that empowers millions of individuals to prove their humanness online while preserving their privacy.

With World App, you can verify your World ID at an orb and then use it to seamlessly sign in to websites, apps and crypto dapps. You can also use World App to explore World ID app integrations like Telegram, Discord and Shopify.

The World App wallet makes it easy to access the global digital economy. You can use it to hold and send digital dollars around the world for free, connect to a service to explore and swap crypto tokens and (in many countries) claim Worldcoin Grants.*

In April 2024, World App passed 10 million total users and 70 million total wallet transactions.

What sets World App apart from other digital wallets?

World App is a different kind of self custodial wallet. It’s designed to be used by everyone.

For starters, World ID holders can enjoy an allowance of some free gas on World App. The team at TFH also intentionally designed it to be simple, familiar and intuitive. World App shows users only the parts of Worldcoin and Ethereum that are likely to be most helpful in their everyday lives.

The native iOS and Android apps are significantly smaller, in terms of the data storage they require, than the industry average. To maximize inclusivity, they’re localized to multiple languages and support most active smartphones in the world (over 98% of Androids and 94% of iPhones), including some more than 10 years old.

What protocols and APIs are integrated into World App?

World App leverages the composability of Ethereum to bring together some of the best and most trusted open protocols and APIs into a single, easy-to-use app.

  • World App wallets use account abstraction through SAFE contracts to increase security and enable gasless transactions.
  • ENS usernames support friendly and easy peer-to-peer payments.
  • Token trading is available through the decentralized Uniswap protocol.
  • Circle’s USDC, which is supported on World App as bridged USDC.e, enables users around the world to have always-on access to a fully-backed digital dollar.
  • Frictionless fiat-to-crypto and crypto-to-fiat exchange is provided by licensed or registered partners in many countries around the world, including Ramp.

In July 2023, World App, along with World ID, was migrated to OP Mainnet where it became the largest app in terms of total usage at more than 36% of ETH fees. Worldcoin, including World App and World ID, has announced it will migrate to World Chain in mid-2024.

Is World App self custodial?

World ID and World App are fully self custodial when it comes to World ID keys and the non-custodial wallet.

Additionally, no information like name, email address, phone number, etc. is required to download and use World App or to verify and use World ID.
